I think I'll go with the birthday boy, Carl Edwards who turns 29 tomorrow. He's seen victory lane here before in June 2007 so he knows his way around this track. He is also 50 points behind Kyle Busch in the Chase bonus points. He needs to close that gap. He'll be racing hard for sure.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. might be looking for a Michigan sweep for 2008. He won the June race here. He might be another to watch. I doubt he will win though.
Jimmie Johnson will be another one to watch. He's never won here and I bet he would like to add a victory here to his resume.
And of course there's Kyle Busch. Maybe he will get victory number nine?
As always, here's the NASCAR Newscast: Michigan Preview:
I'm taking the day off tomorrow. I've got my annual "girls weekend" this weekend. Fun, fun. I'll be back in time to watch the race on Sunday though. Here's the broadcast schedule for the weekend.
Who do you think will win at Michigan International Speedway?
I'll pick Matt Kenseth. I would really like to see Kyle get #9, but this is not his best place to do it.
A sports reporter has already done the Busch fan check. Of all the drivers, Kyle is in the top 5 for sales of merchandise and his fan club has jumped from about 100 fans a couple of months ago to over 800 members recently and climbing.
I'm going to go with the guy that won it for me here in the last go-round....JR. His crew chief has something to prove and Jr loves the outside groove at these 2 milers.
Not to question your research, Racefan, but only 800 fans? I would have bet the farm that there were more.
I sure hope qualifying isn't any indication of the way this race is going to end up. Not that it matters any more. Strategy for pit road pretty much determines who is going to win. I also think JR will do well, but am still going with Cousin Carl.

You can still be a fan and not join any club, son of race fan. I am sure there are more that just haven't made it "official". i would love to see him hit 10 wins before the Chase starts.
I wonder what would happen if JR drove the 99 and Carl drove the 88 next week. What does everyone think of the magnet under the gas pedal on the 18 and the 20?
Oh, Congrats, Jen. Stick with Carl. Clint is cute but not doing well. :)

Sorry, I forgot you picked him too. Enjoy your win. Go buy yourself something from Office Depot.

About this blog:
I am hopeful that this will be a place where people can air their two cents' worth about a race, catch up on the gossip and share their opinions on the rules and regulations of NASCAR. I have always felt that there has been a need for such a place in Maine and that this blog helps to fill the void.
