Need to add Harvick's autograph to your collection?

If you are just dying to have a glimpse of Kevin Harvick or you want an autograph, he will be at Quirk Chevrolet TODAY from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Quirk is located at 1000 Brighton Ave. There's a limited number of folks that can get an autograph (200-250) so if you want to be one of those people, go early.
Harvick's in town to race in the TD Banknorth 250 at Oxford Plains Speedway. I'll be going on Sunday, camera in hand, to take some views from around the track.
Are you planning on going?

I have his already. Will not be going to the race.
Are you only allowed to take pictures? If not, go talk to Kevin. Ask him about the car he's going to drive. It may prove to be interesting.

The "garage" area of Oxford is very accessible for a fee. The drivers are all approachable as well. I have met almost every famous driver there for the past 6 years and they have all been curteous, especially Kyle. You do have to remember that they have a job to do first and then they always have time for fans. Harvick will bring his own car made by his truck crew, so he should be a little less stressed for time than most that come up here.

son of racefan: I considered your comment about disagreeing with me as far as a driver only being as good as his car. I guess I should have clarified my statement. You can have a talented driver, but if the car isn't up to the race, then it doesn't matter, does it? You can have an average driver with the best car on the track for the day and it does matter! What I am trying to say is it isn't always about the driver and whether he can win the race. It IS about whether his car is good enough for him to bring it to a victory. Bummed out because there is no cup race. The Nationwide race is on late Sat. night. Does anybody know what cup drivers will be racing?

I understood what you were saying, Ms. Boogity. I always marvel at drivers that take lesser equipment and drive it to great finishes. I also think that when you are in top equipment, the driver then takes a significant role in providing good finishes, and some drivers can't do that. Jr. complained about his cars last year and for good reason. He blew a motor every other race. He said that is why they are not competitive...his equipment was sub par. When he joined Hendricks, he took that part out of the equation. Now it is up to him. If he can't do it, you have to question his driving ability.
Busch, Edwards, Biffle, Stewart, and Johnson are all guys that don't ask for a perfect car set-up. They just want it loose so they can drive the wheels off from it when they need to. You rarely hear those guys say that their cars were too loose to drive. If this new car is not "good equipment" as most drivers say, then the drivers I listed above show why they are the best of the best. They still bring it up front at the end of the day. I don't think Jr. is among these names yet, especially not with the new cars.

at the moment it can not be argued who has the best equipment, JGR. That being said, Jr is the bread winner so far this year for HMS. Not to mention he's doing it while trying to mesh with a new team. Maybe the new car doesnt exactly fit his style. I know one of the most successful drivers at Oxford preferred his car to be tight, its all preference. Im not making a statement about who the best driver is. There are too many variables involved for me to call.

The Oxford race is on,rain or shine. Will be interesting to see how that goes.
From Jen: They actually called the race about 45 minutes after you posted this comment. (not sure where you heard rain or shine) Battled rain all day and weren't able to get through qualifying. They are resuming today at 2pm, I think. Hopefully they can get it in but it doesn't look that great for today either...

hope you have a soft seat cushion. It could be a long night. They were still trying to get the qualifying races in around 6pm

that's the best part about racing...it's all variables. Who ever overcomes the most will win.

Latest rumor, both Newman and Truex joining forces with Tony at Stewart-Haas.
What happened to "rain or shine"? Hope it goes today so we can see how Harvick does. He had that car specially built and tested for Oxford Plains. I am assuming he also brought a crew with him.
When I was a kid, my aunt used to take us to Oxford almost every Sunday. We must have watched the Pettys' and the Allisons',etc not having a clue who they were. We would cheer for the local guys not those people from the South

Rain or shine was what was reported on the news. Didn't believe it anyway, but with the scattered showers, I was hoping they would get it in.

So, what's happening with the Oxford race? If it is televised, I don't know where. Oh, smart ones, tell me.

The race is not televised.

According to the Oxford Plains Speedway website, the race is on. Go to the OPS website, click on the driver lineup page and on the left hand side you will see a recent update link. I don't know if this will be updated during the race or not.

Oops, that link is on the right hand side of the page.

The OPS link is updating if anyone wants to keep track of the action.

Problems with the website again. Hoping everything gets straightened out for Indy this weekend.

A couple more rumors to keep things interesting:
Stewart-Haas may have announcements later this week regarding car numbers and possibly name a teammate.
Word was around Talladega in the spring that Kyle Petty would be out of a ride. He will not be driving the car now at Indy. Maybe he is out of a ride and Terry Labonte is in for the time being.
