Chicagoland thoughts
Dejavu...

...or a bad dream that I haven't woke up from yet, I'm not sure which. Congrats to Kyle Busch for his victory sweep this weekend, winning both the Nationwide and the Sprint Cup races.
I fell asleep and didn't know who won the Cup race. When I woke up Sunday morning, I headed to the store for a cup of coffee and my cell phone buzzed, indicating that I had a text message. It read: "M&Ms with ur coffee this morning?" I think I said out loud, "Oh no." Yeah, um thanks for being the bearer of bad news first thing in the morning, even before my first sip of coffee. I was bummed.
Joe Gibbs has to be the happiest owner in Sprint Cup right now while Rick Hendrick must be kicking himself.
Despite knowing that Busch won, I went back home and watched the end of the race.
Here are some of my thoughts of the race:
-- I felt bad for Jimmie Johnson when the caution came out. It was his race to win until that point.
-- How can one Childress car be so good (Kevin Harvick) while another so bad? My man Clint Bowyer ran terrible all night. He ended with a 22nd place finish which bumped him outside the top-12 in points. Uugh.
-- What was Larry McReynolds doing putting on a magic show during the broadcast. It was so out of the blue. I shook my head trying to figure out if I was having one of my funky dreams or something. Nope.
-- My pick, Matt Kenseth, had a great car. At one point he had a tire go down, went in the pits to change the tires and went a lap down. He was lucky and got the lucky dog and restarted in something like 38th position and finished 7th.
What did you think of the race?

KB has got it going on, he is schooling the whole field. But I think if Kyle had been able to get inside of JJ on that last lap, then Kevin Harvick would been your winner. Because Kyle would not have lifted when he got loose like Johnson did,(remember Richmond)and they would have both ended up in the fence. I am glad to see that Kyle actually seems excited in victory lane. 70 championship points, the way the 18 is running I dont think it's possible to have enough bad luck to loose the chase.

Looks like Kyle is just beginning to realize that he may be the next Cup champion. We might all just as well pick Rowdy to win everything from now on.
Why feel sorry for JJ? He knew how to win that race and didn't do it. Even Jeffy gave Kyle a thumbs up at the end of the race.
First race I've seen in quite a while that the focus wasn't on Junior.
Nice of them to show us views of that sunset. Wasn't it beautiful?

I am anxious to see what Nascar finds after they test all those motors they pulled.

It's official, Newman is leaving Penske. Hmmm, wonder where he's going? I'm going to wait for an announcement and act surprised.

I actually thought it was strange, and wrong, for JR not to be interviewed, or even talked about. Even though a lot of you don't think JR deserves the coverage or consideration, he is the NUMBER ONE FAN DEMAND, and like it or not, (get over it), all of you, he should be talked about on the coverage. I have other drivers I root for, but recognize that JR is a good and personable driver and deserves coverage. He is only as good as his car, as is every driver, including Rowdy. Remember that, EVERYONE. A driver is only as good as his car.

good riddance to TNT! Jr went from 5th to 30th after pitting and the only explaination (150 laps later) was "a 4 tire pit stop"! Hello??? (And on the rare occasion they do say something useful you can barely even hear them over the background noise.) Hello ESPN!

I don't think it is strange at all. Jr finished 16th. Why would they interview him for a 16th place finish? They did the right thing by not sticking a microphone in his face and asking him why he finished so poorly.

I wasn't running Jr down, MsBoogity, I just thought it was rather strange that there was nothing on Jr almost throughout the race. Not normal.

racefan. Absolutely. I thought it was funny also.. The point I was trying to make is that even though many of you are not JR fans, his ability and his fan demand dictates that he is always covered by the media. It was very obvious last Sat. night, that somehting was wrong. I thought perhaps he requested the media to leave him alone. It was strange and I don't know how to explain it.

Why not stick a microphone in his face? They do it to everybody else. They couldn't wait to ask Jimmie how he managed to finish second.
I have read through some of the Junior forums on Nascar.com, but haven't seen anything about what was happening to him or his car during the race. I might not have read back far enough.

Jr's car extremely tight all night in Chicago. No matter what they did, they couldn't loosen it up.

My personal opinion, and I will try not to sound to technical, is that you interview front runners and those that have a story. I like Jr, but if he was insignificant during a race, he doesn't deserve air time. And let's be honest, he was pretty insignificant at Chicago. If qualifying hadn't been rained out, we might not have seen him anywhere near the front.
As far as a driver only being as good as his equipment, I strongly disagree. A lesser driver can do good things in good equipment or possibly do nothing. A good driver will do good things in a lesser car and great things in good equipment.

Im a little torn with son of race fans comment. I definetly hear his point on talent vs equipment. But, for all we know Jr had a twenty something car and brought it home 16. I think Jr needs to loosen up a little when he does have a good car. I mean he doesnt really seem to hang it out there trying to go for the win. But he keeps racking up points. Kind of like Jeff Burton or Mark Martin. Lets face it we all spent the last couple of years laughing about how many times Kyle was going to knock the fence down.(and that was just in practice) Now we joke about how many times he'll brush it before he wins. Who's laughing now.

I can remember a kid called Dale Jr who used to drive just as recklessly as Kyle Busch. The first time I watched him live at a race my thought was he'll either kill himself or win and he wrecked the car. He used to wreck so much in ARCA I stopped watching it. I thought he was a disgrace to the Earnhardt name.
He's become too mellow. I agree, loosen up Junior and let's see you go for it like you used to.

When the momentun is on your side, there is no slowing down. Kyle Busch is untouchable this season and its gonna take alot for him to lose it all this year. I really hated that for Johnson and would have liked to see a different(new) face in Winner's Circle.
