I thought about not even bothering to pick a winner for the Toyota/Save Mart 350 on Sunday. I seem to jinx the driver that I pick each week. Last weekend I thought Carl Edwards was a no-brainer pick at Michigan. I mean, seriously, wasn't he a good pick? Am I that far out there? And how about this juicy comment regarding my pick last week:
"My first pick was Edwards, but Jen cursed him. Jen, my fiancee is going to be ticked that you picked Edwards on Friday the 13th, hence doubling your bad luck, and now he will probably wind up in a coma."
On top of that, I actually had someone thank me for not picking Dale Earnhardt Jr. last weekend – no lie. Oh well.
As for the road race ... I like watching Boris Said and Ron Fellows on road courses, mostly Boris though. They both are truly amazing to watch run through the field. I would love, love, love to see Boris win one. The road-course ringers never win, though. So I'm not going to pick any of them this weekend.
Three drivers come to mind for me to pick this weekend: Tony Stewart, Jeff Gordon and Kevin Harvick. I've looked at the stats for all three and the one that stands out the most in my opinion is Tony Stewart. Over the last three years, he holds some of the top statistics at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, Calif., including a win in 2005.
It got me thinking ... just like me, Stewart is 0-for-15 this year. He is surely hungry for a win and he's excellent at road courses. So if Stewart's not giving up, then neither am I. Go Stewart go! By you getting a victory, I will too.
Not that anything I say is considered important, but I think JR., even though he is not known for road races, will come through for us. So, let's hope it is an exciting race between the three mentioned so far in this blog.
In an article in Nascarscene this week, Jr's car stopped running moments after crossing the finish line. He said he might have been able to start the car again but thought it was a better story to let people think he was of gas and let his crew have the fun of pushing him to victory lane.
Your comments are important, MsBoogity. I always read what you write. I don't agree Jr will win this one, but having a lot of different opinions makes this blog interesting.
From Jen: I second that about the comments here and Ms. Boogity. Thank you all for commenting. I value all your feedback!
Ignorance is bliss. Go with your gut. Most of you are impressive, giving your knowledgeble comments, but when it comes right down to it, most of the winners are successful because of skill and LUCK.
Jen: Every time I post a comment I have to go through the two step process again. Just thought you might want to know. Is this exclusive to me or are others experiencing the same chore???
From Jen: Thank you for bringing it to my attention. I have relayed this to the powers that be and for whatever reason, they can't figure it out. It's very discouraging and I am sorry that you have to go through the two-step process. It's not just you. Thank you so much for you persistence.
Well Jen, It looks like you jinxed Tony. Do me a favor and leave Kasey Kane alone. I don't recall, but did you pick him last year, maybe that's why he had such a bad year!

Tony may have wanted to start in the back. Most wreaks are in the pack or middle. The leader might wheel hop take out two or three cars. That means Kahne spin with Johnson being damaged- not a bad way to start a race.

My pick will be Robby Gordon. He is a true road course driver and always does well at Sonoma. He also has what it takes to wreck everyone on his way to the front.
son of racefan: I enjoy your predictions, but don't agree with you most of the time. While I think you are very knowledgable as to drivers, abilities, and stats, I think you get to clinical with predictions! I would like to see a dark horse win also, but don't think R. Gordon will win today.

About this blog:
I am hopeful that this will be a place where people can air their two cents' worth about a race, catch up on the gossip and share their opinions on the rules and regulations of NASCAR. I have always felt that there has been a need for such a place in Maine and that this blog helps to fill the void.
