Finally, a victory for Junior

It’s about time. This is the moment that all of Junior Nation has been waiting for. Congratulations to Dale Earnhardt Jr. for finally breaking his 76-race winless streak.

It came down to a gas-mileage race, which I normally do not like. It was a nail biter finish that's for sure. Junior had to keep shutting off his engine to make it to the end. He was that close to running out of gas and in fact he did run out while driving his car to victory lane and needed his team to push the car to victory lane.

This win was like pouring gas on a camp fire on a damp day. It's what was needed to get the fire burning hot for the 88 team. I don’t think we have seen the last of him in victory lane this year.

Other thoughts of the race:

Because it was Father's Day, there was a lot more family present during the pre-race festivities. Or at least they televised family members a lot more.

-- Brian Vickers?! Where in the heck did he come from? He went from 18th to second by lap 25. Wow.

-- I typically hate it when NASCAR throws debris cautions but I was thankful for that first one they threw. I was drifting off to lala land when the caution flag waved and it woke me up a bit. So thank you NASCAR.

-- I don't know if I can bear to watch next weekends race at Sonoma, California. Clint Bowyer dropped to 12th in the point standings after yesterday's race. I know I will be a nervous nelly during next weekend's race. He is only ten points away from dropping to 13th. Uugh.

Congrats to Joey Logano on his first Nationwide victory. What an accomplishment given it's only his third start in that series. Wow.

Bowyer, and his teammate Kevin Harvick, aren't exactly setting the world on fire out there. Remember last year it was Bowyer who made the Chase with some pretty terrible stats. Looks like that could be Harvick this year with 5 top-10's in 15 starts.

I like the race at Michigan. It is always interesting.

What is everyone's thought on the drivers' meeting last weekend? I wonder what brought that on. Are the top Nascar people less than thrilled with the COT, too? Remember when they promised the car would make for great side-by-side racing?

Michigan was such an awesome race.

First, let me start by saying I am a "true" NASCAR fanatic, and have been for years (back to when Cale was driving).
I have always said, in my opion, NASCAR was a "true" athletic sport and drivers were "true" athletes, try having the "average-Joe" do what these death-defying drivers do, not just for one race, but an entire season. However, my opinion was been greatly altered as of yesterdays Michigan "Life-Lock" 400, not my opinion on the latter point, but on the first opinion....THE SPORT.
A sporting outcome is determined on the field, on the court, on the diamond, on the rink, maybe even by the officials, but NEVER, let me repeat myself in case you missed that last line....NEVER by management or ownership, that would be titled by another name....... maybe....... COLLUSION!!!
Maybe the U.S. Senate should leave Bob Kraft and the Pariots alone and start talking to the France Family.
NASCAR accomplised what it, not only wanted to do, but, what it NEEDED..... divert the attention of media and fans from the "black-eye" (pardon the pun) of the surprise anouncement of the upcoming racial and sexual harrasment lawsuit, to the "faux-win", no matter how fixed it was, of the NASCAR "golden-child.
Can someone please explain to me how a driver with so little to claim as accomplishments can garner so much attention by fans and media.... that however is enough for a whole series of article in itself?!?!?!
Way to go NASCAR...... "WAG THE DOG"..... noone does it better than you!!!!!

Enlighten us, BAMASMOKE, on how you think the race was fixed. Being in the top five for most of the 2008 races is an accomplishment in itself. . No one has forgotten the pending lawsuit, although I don't blame Nascar. Every big organization will experience controversial things occasionally. This doesn't put a damper on the racing competition at all. The woman had legitimate complaints, but didn't report them to anyone. As a woman, I experienced some of the same treatment at a major box store. I reported it, though, and appropriate action was taken. I never thought less of this employer because of it. In fact, I respected them more for doing something about it.
I, too, have been watching Nascar races for many years AND watching the political scene carefully the past ten years. Let's keep the Obama politics out of the Nascar scene, please.

Junior once said that no matter what his father did, everyone thought it was cool. Even when it was something wrong, people still thought it was cool. Jr said he wished he had that and I think he does. Whether he wins or not, Junior Nation backs him all the way.

Junior's win had nothing to do with politics. There have been other incidents of discrimination in Nascar and they were dealt with. Those found at fault by Nascar were banned.

About this blog:
I am hopeful that this will be a place where people can air their two cents' worth about a race, catch up on the gossip and share their opinions on the rules and regulations of NASCAR. I have always felt that there has been a need for such a place in Maine and that this blog helps to fill the void.
