Darlington picks

Ahhhh.....Darlington. I love this track (aka Lady in Black). My true Mainer accent shines bright when I say the name of this track -- pronounced DAHLINGTON, the track too tough to tame.

Storytime -- When I say it, it reminds me of a time I was visiting my friend down in North Carolina and a bunch of people were trying to "teach" me the proper way to say the word car and other various words with the letter R. I couldn't get it. I just cannot make myself pronounce that R the way they wanted me to.

We were drinking so of course we all were busting a gut laughing about it. It was like a game to them. We finally had to give up because I couldn't stop laughing. -- The end.

Back to Darlington. My pick this week is going to be Jeff Gordon. He's won here seven times. Seems like a logical pick. But as you know, I have typically jinxed my pick each week. I am 0-for-10. Actually, maybe people should start reading this blog to decide who NOT to pick.

How much do you love Dale Earnhardt Jr.? I got a a press conference transcript in my email and laughed when I read:

HAVE YOU AND KYLE BUSCH TALKED SINCE RICHMOND?
“No, we haven’t. We probably will. It ain’t no big deal. There ain’t no big rush.”

Well I for one, "ain't" jumping on the Kyle Busch band wagon anytime soon. Gotta love Junior. He's such a fantastic public speaker.

And one more thing... I'm not going to mention any names but I did receive a big, and I mean BIG bag of M&M's delivered to my desk at work yesterday. Very funny...Very funny!

Gee Jen, are you planning on sharing those M&M's with your friends?????

Jen: Well yesterday I felt like an Easter Bunny by going around desk to desk and dropping off little piles of M&M's to everyone. So I did share, there was no way I could eat them all.

Don't let Dale Earnhardt Jr. know you're eating those M&M's. Not too shabby, although you probably would have preferred a big bag of Clint Bowyer at your desk.

I thought of doing that but it wasn't me.

Kyle says he called Jr but Jr had not called back. that was a couple of days ago.

I will pick Hamlin for the win. He has a monkey on his back this week. He also happens to be good at Darlington.
Gordon is good here, but he will smash his car up so that he complains that it won't "handle" for most of the race. Kyle will probably scrape the wall several times and hurt his car as well. Jr always runs the high line and the low line will prevail for the winner.
Fox sports has a great article with Jr's response to Richmond. His payback will be surprising and subtle, I suspect.

Well, I'm going to do it. I'm going to pick Kyle Busch. Scraping the wall at Darlington is a given. Denny seems to be the favorite among the "experts". I think. Smoke does not do well here. Elliot Sadler is predicting that the race will be wild. That's right up Kyle's alley.

I have friends going to Darlington this weekend. They are going to send pictures and let me know if anything interesting happens.

They are big Jr fans, Jen, so I'm sure he'll be in a picture or two although they promised to take pixs of Tony for me.

Carl Edwards will win, with JR close by.

Crew chief Dave Rogers is an idiot savant. I think he is the Rain Man of the Nationwide Series. He does a great job with different drivers putting the 20 car up front every week, yet he looks and sounds like an idiot in post race interviews. Either way, he should find his way to the Cup Series. He might be another Robby Reiser or Chad Knaus.

He did it again. I dont care that he wrecked another car, but whine like a girl about it to the cameras. He blamed a lapped car for being in the way,,well yeah!!! They're a lap down because they cant put their car where they want it. I think he forgot that he made it three deep and dorve to the bottom of that lapped car, while the lapped car was getting passed on the high side as well. Where was the lapper suppose to go? Like last week he drove in to deep inside of someone and lost it, only he was the only victim this week.

I remember SR in the Wrangler car, thats old school, and I still dont remember him whining like Busch.

I wonder if they are trying to tell us something, racefan. I finally figured my problem was somehow the Remember personal info? had been switched to No and the name and email address boxes were empty. I took them for granted and didn't look at them, even when I was having a problem. I emailed the webmaster and Jen and then I had a light bulb minute! Once I filled in those three things, my name appeared again. I feel like I'm home again. I was beginning to think I was being censored also. Just kidding, Jen. Looks like Sally and I are rooting for Carl, even though he is starting way back. Racefan, I am watching Speed and the crowd is booing him like crazy. You sure you want to go with him?

Racefan: They are booing Kyle, not Carl.

This is great, I finally get a chance to actually sit and watch a race and the station is having technical difficulties!

Congrats, racefan! You picked the winner. He might not be very popular, but he sure is a good driver who has a lot of guts. My guy came in second.

Good call, racefan. Obnoxious as he is, Kyle is the best driver in the series right now. Jen needs more M and M's.

Thanks everybody. They always boo the Busch Brothers. Makes me laugh. They used to boo Earnhardt Sr too, but he could out drive anybody.

This kid adds so much excitement, I love to watch him race. I was holding my breath the last 15 laps expecting a tire to blow or something.

I don't believe in the "momentum" theory, but if there is any such thing, how can you all not pick a Gibbs driver?

About this blog:
I am hopeful that this will be a place where people can air their two cents' worth about a race, catch up on the gossip and share their opinions on the rules and regulations of NASCAR. I have always felt that there has been a need for such a place in Maine and that this blog helps to fill the void.
