Fourth RCR car in 2009: my prediction

Here's my prediction:

Truex 040808.jpg
Martin Truex Jr.

I think Truex's contract expires at the end of this year. Based on how Dale Earnhardt Inc. is flopping around like a fish out of water, I can't really see him staying there. He would be a fool to re-sign.

Do you care to share your prediction this early on? Come on, throw it out there here and now for all to see...

Yesterday my brother-in-law sent me a link to an article on Toyota Speedway At Irwindale. I read it and it's really an inspirational story. If you get a chance, read it.

It got me thinking about all the various articles out there that most of us don't even see. Seriously, who has that kind of time? So I thought I would throw this out there for you.

If you come across something off the beaten path that you find interesting, email the link to me. It can be a local story that you want to share or virtually anything from any form of racing, whatever. I can share a good portion of them at the bottom of my entries.

All for now...

Bobby Labonte was asked about going to RCR last week by a reporter and I did not hear him say no.

And to answer your question, MsBoogity, about Jr (I just saw your comment), he told Tony Jr over the radio that if he did not fix the car to drive better, he'd wreck it. Tony Jr didn't fix it so Jr wrecked it. One time Jr said over the radio that he really needed a caution and he should spin out to get one. Then he did. I'm not picking on Jr. These are just some of the actions race drivers take and some get away with it. Robby got caught on tape throwing a glove out his window to cause a debris caution. Jr made the mistake of saying what he would do over the radio where he could be heard. That stuff happens.

Richard Childress was quoted as saying it did not look like Bobby would make the move with General Mills.

Thanks for the disappointing info, racefan. I am surprised, but I am one of those people who has a lot of faith in human beings doing the right thing and constantly get let down. I didn't realize Jr. was a cheater. Guess I have been out of the loop for a long time.

Jr. did that at Bristol. That doesn't make him a cheater, that makes him lucky for not wrecking his car. Gordon has never seemed to be able to work with an ill handling car. He would rather wreck than be multiple laps down with a clean racecar. I'd like to see what he could do in anything other than Hendricks cars.
I can see Truex going to Hendricks. How many races has he been doing well in and popped an engine? He should go to RCR and take Bono with him.

Here is the deal about the spin out by Jr. I would have to go back further in the archives to find the time he wrecked, but I'm not going to unless I have nothing better to do. And you're right, sonof. If IG can't do anything with the car, he'll go home. Kyle Petty is another famous for that.

I don't call this exactly cheating either. It's just sort of trying to make opportunities go your way. This was back in 2000, I believe, when he was younger and dumber.

Dale Jr. penalized 10G's and docked 25 points: Driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. was penalized with a loss of 25 championship driver points, a $10,000 fine and probation until June 1 for his actions during Sunday's NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway, NASCAR officials announced today. The penalty also will extend to the team as Dale Earnhardt Inc. will lose 25 championship owner points for the actions of its driver. Earnhardt Jr., driver of the #8 Budweiser Chevrolet, was penalized for intentionally causing a caution condition during the race and as a result was in violation of Section 12-4-A (Actions detrimental to stock car racing) and 12-4-N (Any driver who, in the judgment of NASCAR officials, intentionally causes or attempts to cause a caution condition by stopping or spinning out or any other action) of the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series Rule Book.
"The driver of the No. 8 car was quite vocal in admitting he intentionally spun out his car to cause a caution condition on the track, which is clearly prohibited in the NASCAR Rule Book," NASCAR President Mike Helton said.

There is alot of interesting stuff in Jayski's archives. Does anyone remember the argument between Nascar and drivers over Powerade?

Using my super power of retaining useless sports facts, I believe it was an argument based on the fact that Powerade is a Pepsi or Coke product and Gatorade is not. It was a sponsorship conflict in Victory Lane.

About this blog:
I am hopeful that this will be a place where people can air their two cents' worth about a race, catch up on the gossip and share their opinions on the rules and regulations of NASCAR. I have always felt that there has been a need for such a place in Maine and that this blog helps to fill the void.
