Texas pick

I have been a bit out of sorts this week. Well, mostly because I was supposed to be in North Carolina. All week I kept looking at the clock thinking, I'd already have a few pops in me right about now.... Oh well, life happens.

I'll get back into a rhythm here and start posting a few more entries. I promise. My pick for this weekend's race at Texas Motor Speedway is Kevin Harvick. I have no particular reason why I'm picking him other than I thought he looked so darned cute wearing a cowboy hat last November when he won the Busch race:

I just want to see him wear a cowboy hat again. Simply fantastic. Who are you picking to win this weekend?

Haven't decided yet. Will wait for qualifying and practice not that that means anything. Roush has the best record, but JGR may end that and of course there may still be a tire issue. Will probably pick Smoke. It's Tony's turn.

RCR is adding a fourth driver. Anyone care to venture a guess as to who that might be?

Kasey Kahne is better in a cowboy hat...he looks like Woody from Toy Story. Harvick is not usually known for his mile and a half wins, but with RCR's run, he just might be ok. My pick would be Kyle or Tony.

I don't believe that RCR has anyone ready to move up into a fourth car right now. They have that one kid who will probably be there eventually. I think they will find a one year filler to get through 2009. A veteran who will help establish the team. Dale Jarrett?

FROM JEN: Thank you for the visual on Kahne looking like Woody. That's hilarious!

Scott Wimmer has been making the RCR cars go good in the Busch Series(i still kick it old school),He's not my favorite driver, but he probably deserves a chance. Remember Childress threw Bowyer right into the fire and he went well.
I'd like to see JR get his first HMS win at the same place his first DEI win came.

An offer went out to Bobby LaBonte, but so far he has turned it down. I do think it will be an older veteran.I don't believe it will be Wimmer or Jarrett. Jarrett has stepped into the sportscaster role.

Jr could win if he'd just do his job at driving the car and let Tony, Jr do his job at setting the car up.That constant complaining is starting to wear thin. I was hoping Rick would put a stop to it.

FROM JEN: Um, excuse me... you LOVE the biggest complainer there is. Gibbs hasn't stopped him yet.

Tony doesn't complain to Zippy like JR does to Tony Jr. Tony complains to everyone else.

I think Wimmer has proven himself a good driver...in the Nationwide Series. He did not succeed at the Cup level. He does seem to be the best fit for a RCR ride though. Bobby Labonte does drive Childress or Harvick cars in the Nationwide Series, but I think his record is one win, 15 crashes.

If it is any consolation, Jen, my trip to the Grand Canyon had to be cancelled. Airline problems. All of you::: DO NOT FLY SKYBUS.
I want to wait for qualifying, too, before I make my prediction. As long as JR. doesn't complain to us fans, he is ok with me. He should complain to his PC chief. The results of his last five races proves that.

FROM JEN: I am sorry to hear about your trip. Uugh...

I flew Sky Bus in February and had no problems at all except they were about a half hour late both ways.

A bunch of us are waiting for the RCR-Tony Stewart rumors to start. Maybe this is the secret one that was supposed to be revealed.

Wimmer does not have a good Cup record.I wonder what kind of deal Nemecheck has. He would be good. How about Ricky Craven?

I think I will choose Tony for the win. I figure if Roush has the best win record, then a Toyota that might have stolen Roush parts on it should be really good. That's a joke, Folks.

Like I said Wimmer is not my favorite driver, and I cant argue his cup record, but,,, what BDR driver has a good record. Your only as good as the equipment they give you. Jr is proving that.

Ive got to go with a Toyota, either Stewart or Rowdy. No matter how they qualify, they are going to be up front.

Ricky Craven would be a great fit for that 33 car until the program comes up to speed. But we are also all biased up here for Ricky.

What a crazy qualifying crash by Michael McDowell! Probably the worst I've seen in ten years. Good to see him get some TV coverage after last week's run in with Burton.

I still don't buy that Wimmer is a good pick. I think they have a lot of time to find someone before they have to commit to Wimmer. If they wanted him to drive Cup, why havn't they fielded a full time Nationwide team for him?

I'm picking Jr. to win with Edwards and Gordon second and third.

There was no "offer" to Bobby "LaBonte" (yeah, its Labonte). There was speculation he would go with the sponsor but clearly that wasn't in the cards for Childress. Trust this, if Childress made an "offer" to Labonte right now, he'd be gone in a heartbet. Petty Enterprises is gone from the sport by 2010. It was already a long sinking ship and losing General Mills will just take that dog out to the woods with pistol in hand even quicker.
And Scott Wimmer probably lost any chance of scoring a "good ride" in Cup after getting sauced up and hiding under the bed. Highly unlikely that a family centric sponsor like General Mills would want to deal with Wimmer's baggage no matter how long ago it was.

I think all RCR wants is someone to field a car temporarily to help school a younger driver. If they should do exceptionally well, then maybe they would be kept.Ricky C would be a great fit at RCR.

How long did Petty Enterprises expect to survive with Kyle just driving around week after week and doing absolutely nothing? That has been ridiculous. I don't feel sorry for RPE at all.

Be prepared for some Stewart fireworks. He said on TSL this week that he is waiting to hear reaction to Burton's comments about McDowell and if there isn't any, he's not going to be careful about what he says any more, not that he has been.

I don't know what the tire situation will be at Texas, but according to sportscasters, Kyle, Tony and Carl did the best with the tires at Atlanta, so I am going with Smoke, Edwards and Rowdy in that order in my fantasy leagues.

I just emailed Ricky C and asked if he's had an offer from RCR. We'll see if he answers.

Burton and McDowell allegedly kissed and made up. And what an ass Burton would be attacking him after what he just went through in qualifying. I feel that McDowell probably jumped through the Nascar ranks faster than he should have anyway. Most of your front runners have a solid year in Nationwide, Trucks, or high level racing elsewhere. I think McDowell was running ARCA last year.

Good call, SJH. I forgot about Wimmer's little drinking and driving incident. As for a driver in the 33, it's all speculation until a contract is signed.

When is Stewart not fireworks?

And for a final thought, I don't have any pity for the downfall of Petty racing. However, someone asked Kyle why he didn't find another driver for the 45 since Adam was supposed replace him in it. He said that he feels closer to Adam in his car than anywhere else. A heart felt story, but unfortunately not the best plan for the success of Petty Enterprises.

Skybus went under. I knew it would, but not as fast as it did. It wasn't even a year old. Fortunately, I am getting my money back. Enjoy all the comments about owners and teams. When it comes down to the race, though, ability and owner ability to produce good cars, is all that matters. See you at the race. I think most of you will be sadly surprised.

I wondered how long Sky Bus could continue with those prices. They had some great deals and I was looking forward to going somewhere else.Sorry you lucked out. If ability and production count, than I'm still sticking with Gibbs and Roush for this one. Tires may still be a problem, so I hope they avoid the wrecks.

For some reason my name, MsBoogity, didn't appear with my last comment of 4/5, 12:18. I don't want to get into trouble with Jen, so mention it here. lol. Let's go racing, boys!

I think we all knew who posted, MsBoogity.

Just read the 10 top reasons Waltrip Racing had the Roush sway bar. One said that the sway bar attached itself to Mikey's magnetic personality. Too funny!

Boogity, boogity, boogity---let's go!

Update: Jack Roush accuses the Toyota of Denny Hamlin of stealing the spotlight from his driver by crashing the 07 on the final lap.

About this blog:
I am hopeful that this will be a place where people can air their two cents' worth about a race, catch up on the gossip and share their opinions on the rules and regulations of NASCAR. I have always felt that there has been a need for such a place in Maine and that this blog helps to fill the void.
