Martinsville thoughts

Hamlin33008.jpg

Congrats to Denny Hamlin on his victory yesterday. I'm not much of a Hamlin fan though. He's a bit boring if you ask me.

Here are a few random thoughts of the race...

-- Jeff Hammond did a great job waving the green flag for the start of the race.

-- I would be very happy if I never heard them talk about “Digger,” the gopher cam. I think it’s ridiculous.

-- I said it after the last race and I’ll say it again: I hate it when they only scroll the top ten in the rundown.

-- Could Matt Kenseth have had a worse day? Seriously, how many incidents was he involved in?

-- Some things haven’t changed since last season. The No. 8 car blew up. Only this year, I didn't care.

-- The one and only time that Kyle Busch could have been a hero in my eyes, he failed. He was Hamlin’s wing man and instead of trying to block Jeff Gordon, he got right out of the way. I was a bit surprised by that considering Hamlin is now his teammate. Maybe he had a flash back of last year and thought Gordon was his teammate?

-- Clint Bowyer is Mr. Consistent. Every time I looked, he was in the top ten. He’s having a pretty good season this year. Here are the unofficial point standings after yesterday's race.

What did you think of the race?

On a different note...

I was asked if I had heard anything about Ryan Moore and whether he is still racing.

I got an e-mail from his father Kelly Moore and he says: "Ryan will not be running the East Series, he works at Everham Motorsports in Statesville N.C., he heads up the brake department for the Cup cars."

Jeez, lighten up. Out of 7 thoughts, 5 were negative. Nascar is fun whatever the outcome of the races.

I thought yesterday's race was really good and I'm not a big fan of short track. Kenseth, Mikey and Robby-very entertaining.

Ryan had some incidents while racing and I believe was at least once penalized for retaliation at Lyme Rock. That may be why he is now in the shop.

By the way,if the comment code has an error message, hit post again and it usually works.

Congrats, racefan, on choosing Hamlin. It was a a boring race. I fell asleep in the middle of it and am guessing that pit stops changed the order of leaders. Quite a change. Where's Tony??? He just isn't performing this year.

Smoke finished 5th and has three top 5 finishes. In the chase he is sixth.Smoke and all the Toyotas including this weeks winner are exceeding all expectations this year.Would not be surprised if they pull out a win in one of the next three races.

Ryan Moore decided to keep hitting a competitor's car after the flag flew and after he was warned not to. Nascar parked him for a few races, therefore preventing him from driving in the Busch races for DEI. It's a shame. He was really coming around.

I thought the race was fun. These cars hit better than the old ones. It lets people get more aggressive.

Did anyone else think that JR was not as aggressive as his car was good? He should have moved people a little more often and held his lead.

I think that it is always good form of a driver to help his teammate until the last few laps, then it is up to him to win. I would not want to think that I tainted a win by slowing someone down.

As an additional note, was every wreck traced back to about five drivers as the cause? Hilarious!

I agree that Toyotas are really doing well, but we all knew a win wasnt far away as soon as Gibbs got on board. I wonder if the Toyotas are going better or if the Gibbs cars are going like they always have. Either way Toyota has found the winners circle. I hope they bring a tougher ring gear next time they go to Martinsville.
I think Ryan Moore blew his chance for the big show when he got parked by Nascar. Owners invest a lot of time and money in these guys for them to loose their cool and get parked. If you cant keep your head in the Busch North series, how are you ever going to pull it off in the big show?

Thanks, MsBoogity, I picked Hamlin to win in 4 of my fantasy leagues. I did quite well as I also picked both Jeffs among others.I almost chose Kenseth. Good thing I changed my mind.

I am thrilled with the Gibbs teams results this season. I was worried all winter and expected them to struggle the first half of the season after seeing what Mikey's team went through. That's just showing good hard work by everyone in the Gibbs organization.

Tony's win will come. He has always been a second half performer anyway although he is doing better this year. I have not heard what was up with his car at Martinsville. He didn't have the winner but he still managed to stay up there.

Kyle did drop down and make an effort to hold JG back, but I don't think he had car enough and got out of the way. That's good sportsmanship right there.I am sure Jeff will do the same for him some day! LOL!!!

BTW, WCSH is sponsoring a Nascar fantasy league. Starts now. Kind of late but it can be found on their website in the Sports section. It's Finish Line Challenge.
