Las Vegas thoughts

A day late...sorry. Congrats to Carl Edwards for getting victory number two.
Can you say, bad right front tires? Holy cow. I think I counted (correct me if I'm wrong, I didn't watch the ENTIRE race) four drivers who had a right front tires blow. Tony Stewart was one of them. What a hit into the outside wall. I was glad to see that he was okay, although he did need a bit of assistance walking to the vehicle that was taking him to the infield care center.
Nascar made a good call in not penalizing Carl Edwards' team for the mishap with the tire. It was clearly the camera man's fault. I also like how the guys in the boothe made sure to tell us that it was not a FOX camerman.
Another bad day for Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon. First Daytona and now Vegas. Good thing Rick Hendrick brought on Dale Earnhardt Jr. to carry the load.
What did you think of the race?

That was a good race except for the blown tires. Looks like Goodyear doesn't have a handle on what tires to put on that COT. Seems like there should have been more tests on the wear before someone is seriously injured.
Today is supposed to be the day when Robby Gordon will learn his fate.
Nascar also says there was an issue with Edwards' car and they are looking into it.

Edwards and his crew are cheaters. There are four bolts holding that oil cover on.The down force that created might have robbed Jr of a victory. I say 25,000 and 100 points. Even if it was an accident, these guys are supposed to be professional.

I think Carl will have to be penalized for the oil cover. His was completely off, not loose as in other cases.
As for the loose tire on pit road, I think Nascar made a bad call. The procedure where the tire carrier rolls the tire to the wall and has another crewman grab is not set forth by Nascar. This is done to save time on the pit stop. If the tire is not caught, regardless of reason, then it is the fault of the crew.
Nascar created the "items must be in the pit stall before leaving the pit" rule because loose equipment on a road with 50 mph cars and hundreds of crew guys is dangerous. With this precedent, Nascar needs to stop issuing hot passes and make certain that pit areas are clean. What is next, "I missed a lug nut because there was dirt and rubber in my way" or "I was speeding because other cars were in my way".
I like Carl Edwards. But when Nascar relaxes a rule that results in a win for a team, it doesn't look good on their part.

The oil cover off was not an accident. Unfortunately, Edwards and his crew need to be penalized hard. Now that Nascar has discovered that trick, all of the crews will look at something else to gain an advantage.
And know what? When they take Carl's points away,Rowdy Busch will be the points leader in all 3 series!

Um, okay. As I see it, racefan, Shrub is in 2nd place in the points for the Nationwide Series. When I read your post, I almost spit my coffee out in dread. So even if Carl is dinged the points that you hope is is dinged, he still won't be point leader in 3 divisions. Am I wrong?

Oops. have to take that back. Tony is now the Nationwide series points leader. Kyle will have to wait another week. I got too excited!
Stop drinking coffee cause it's gonna happen!

How many of you think Carl, or any good racer, for that matter, would be stupid enough to jeopardize pts. and reputation, by deliberately leaving the oil cover off to gain advantage on the track? As you watch him go to victory lane, responsible to the car's owner, and having the whole year ahead of them, I don't think he and his crew are going to cheat if they know the car is going to be inspected right after the race. Call me naiive but it just doesn't make sense for the 99 family to a stupid thing like that. Tony is going to have a year like Jr's 2007. He is a good driver, but Toyota cars will have problems and he will have a year of bad luck and mishaps. Kyle will be in the top ten all year, if he doesn't kill himself or somebody else. It should be an interesting year.

Tony Stewart is already having a better year than Jr did in 2007 and will. The Toyota's of which Kyle Busch drives will not have problems they have already proven themselves far better than 2007. It will be impossible for Kyle Busch to be in the top 10 with a problematic Toyota. However I think this is going to be a great year for baby Busch. Smoke starts off slow, but by summer he is going to be a raging inferno.
