Kansas picks

Based on the stats that I shared in yesterday's post, I am going to go with Tony Stewart for the win.

Another possibility in my mind, and only because the team is just on fire and Kansas happens to be his home state, is Clint Bowyer.

On a different note...

Yesterday, "racefan" posted a comment regarding online chats with former Daytona 500 winners. (thank you, I had seen it but glad you mentioned it) Here is the schedule and information on how to do it.

Hmmm, I think I will pick Tony Stewart. He's last year's defending champ and has the best average finish. He's also overdue for a win.

This is not Hamlin's best place to race.

Tony is tough to bet against, but I have to say Clint will do it. Hometowns bring out the best in drivers. I think that the top ten will be the same top ten that it has been most of the year, though.....full of chase drivers.

Well lets see.... Smoke started 21st last year and won, this year he qualified 19th. It's in the old car, about time and I expect that there are going to drivers who overdrive into the turns because of the great handle of the other car.
Kennseths going to be good. Jimmie Johnson has the pole again, but that didn't help last week. Gordon finished 39th last year, so he is a little anxious.
Lorne Wallace is like 12 years old and not in a cup ride yet, so he is not one of my picks this week.

It's about time that you came to the orange side. Remember your Jedi mind tricks will not work on us. The Stewies are everywhere.

Truex will win, with Jr. and Bowyer in the top five. Stewart and Gordon will be in the top ten.

Does anyone think this race will be as crazy as Dover? Kansas is notorious for cautions, and last years fuel run was cool as well. Somebody said last week that there are several races going on (the chase, the thirteenth spot, the thirty fifth spot, lucky dog, next year's ride, sponsers) so drivers are racing as hard as ever. It's a great time to be a Nascar fan!

It's a great time to be a race fan. Jimmy Johnson is going to the rear of the field, due to car trouble. The orange machine is great.Jeff Gordon machine is good too.
Stewart had a camera shoved in his face at Morning practice. He said something nasty and barely audible, but something, the announcer appologized for. I would have said something too, if someone shoved a camera into the back of my head while I was talking to Robby Gordon. Then when he turned around the camera guy was right there in his personal space. When is the media going to wake up and give him some room, next they will be busting down his motorhome door to ask questions while he pees. If he was to step on the camera guys foot and sprain an ankle- then what. Ruin this years chances at millions and a title- so some pimplefaced jerk making 60,000 a year can get a shot and sound bite. You got your sound bite. Get out of his way. He will talk to you, when he wants to.

You know they are just going to say the camera guy was just doing his job, however there are not a lot of us that think the inside of Tony's ear makes good news. Give him some room. Nascar is going to give him a fine, they can't not give him one. No matter if he is set up on.
Smoke has a job to do also and that is win races- not take cheap shots from the press. He gets enough of that from Gordon,Johnson and JR fans.

Maybe Tony wants to try to have the same thing happen that happened to him in 2002. Only I think ,he hit that guy. Well theres always next time. Better luck to you, Tony.

As far as I know, the network owning the race rights is only obligated to televise the race. All other televised portions of the weekend are an at-will, at- risk personal decision. Nascar did not ask ESPN to jam that camera in Tony's face as they do in victory lane. I don't believe Tony will get a fine. There will be a conversation, but no penalty.
Remember Petty at Sonoma? Cable stations fall under different rules than networks like Fox and NBC. You can swear on cable legally, but it is not profitable for the station to allow it during daytime or primetime television.
Good for Tony on saying what every other driver wanted to. I see ESPN stating that "he will lose points but it has not been announced yet" on every ten minute score update. They are beating a dead horse, and hopefully learned to be more respectful of the athletes.

No fine for Smoke- so the paper says " because he didn't know the camera was on". That is crap. The problem is that the camera guy for what ever company- ESPN I think, was at fault for the whole thing anyways. I also noticed that they steered clear of him before the race as well. No wonder that he declined comment after the race. Why would he? After the camera guy almost assaulted him a day earlier. Some people don't know when to stop.

About this blog:
I am hopeful that this will be a place where people can air their two cents' worth about a race, catch up on the gossip and share their opinions on the rules and regulations of NASCAR. I have always felt that there has been a need for such a place in Maine and that this blog helps to fill the void.
