Slap on the wrists

NASCAR has fined Tony Stewart $25,000 and penalized him 25 driver points for his slip of the tongue during his interview in victory lane. I guess they didn't really want to show him a lesson. It certainly isn't steep enough to prevent him from cursing again on TV.

Some people say that his attitude is refreshing to NASCAR. He gives fans something exciting to watch. I don’t. I find it a complete turnoff.

Tony Stewart's language after he won the Brickyard 400 was without a doubt inappropriate. However, to say that he is not an exciting part of NASCAR is inaccurate. Tony Stewart is the most explosive competitor in the circuit today. We are in the midst of an era where the clean-cut Jimmie Johnsons and Kasey Kahnes are becoming more mainstream. Tony is one of the few drivers with enough guts to answer to nobody but himself. The Chase lacked drama last year without him and on any given day he is one of the Top 3 most talented racers. If you are a race fan that is the stuff that you live for.

Hes a great driver, nobody will take that away from him...but his attitude and anger issues make him a Jerk.

Cursing is no big deal. What are you, Jennifer, a prude?

CA Skunk-
I got a laugh out of that question...no certainly not! I think the kids that happened to be there needed to hear it. That's all.

whoops, I meant the kids DIDN'T need to hear it.

The points are the problem. The money aint no big thing. Tony said what was appropriate to defend his fans, but just not using the words. It's because of Johnson, Gordon and Jr fans like you, who always have to rag on Smoke fans.Who don't have the rights too rag on us. Jr can drive, yes, but not consistant. He is not a great driver. He will never be like his daddy. Smoke is not pretty, but he is a great driver. Just like Gordon- who is pretty is a great driver. What other driver who is not liked as much, defends his support. Listen to fans boo, the Busch brothers, especially Kurt. Then listen to hear him say anything post race worth hearing.

Kids are going to hear cussing sooner or later, most likely on the television or their own parents like I did. Sorry Dad. Sal is right and Jennifer, you should be careful not to get like a lot of Jr/Johnson/Gordon fans who talk a load of crap about other drivers when Jr does not finish or Johnson does not finish. However when they do finish the race in the top 15, Jr and Johnson fans don't say too much, even if another driver like Tony Stewart, win. Maybe you should have your own media coverage blog and just talk about Jr, instead of having a NASCAR blog. Because Tony Stewart is NASCAR and right now he is smoking hot. It's okay to have favorites and all, but you are the media and the owner of this blog- you need to be more objective. We all know who your favorite is, we have to look at him every time we open to your blog.

Jennifer, are you not going to watch a race because Tony Stewart might win and say something human? You know, being turned off and all.
They only fined Jr $10,000 when he had his slip up with the same four letter word least we forget. He said and this is not a quote, "My daddy won at this race track 10 times, my once or twice, don't mean S#&*." He was talking about Daytona after winning it. Imagine that. Talking about the most coveted race and trophy in NASCAR.

Maybe it was Talledaga. Not sure. Anyways that was about what he said. Why was Tony's 15,000, more.Just want to whine like every one says my hero does. Seeing that he isn't getting picked on for 15K.

Jacko-
I talked about Stewart this week because of his choice of words in victory lane (BS)
Yes, kids are going to hear it eventually, but certainly this should not be the place they should have to.

AND- you made me laugh about you having to see Jr. every time you opened the blog because you don't know how much crap I got in just having him in the picture.

The web producer kept saying it was too wide of a picture (I hope she wasn't insinuating anything there) I would have had a few more of my "favorite" drivers but I think she would have had a corinary.

I also picked him because I think he is widely known to even people that aren't race fans. I didn't want someone to see my face and think this was a knitting blog!

Mac-
Did I say that I wouldn't watch a race? Gosh if I did, that was a mistake. I think I said that I may shut off the television before watching him in victory.

BUT that was just me venting a bit. Now that I have this blog, I won't be turning it off. I will sit there and stomache his interview or whatever you want to call it.

According to ESPN they did have their delay on, and they don't know why it didn't work. Their media must have been doing something wrong because even nice guy Greg Biffle blew them off after the race Saturday night.

ESPN is also part of Disney. When was the last time Disney made a true family movie without cursing or some violence? They also have a new set of dvd's available and one features the top Nascar rivalries of all time. Guess what you get to see in that one? Another features the top drivers including Jr Johnson who spent time in federal prison for illegal whiskey. Who's a bad role model?

It's sensationalizing as usual. All we hear about is drug abuse, alcohol abuse, etc. How about reporting good stuff the drivers such as Tony does. Where was any coverage of the recent Victory Junction Ride? (And even Kype P let the F-bomb go not too long ago.)

A bunch of us from the Nascar Smoke's House are making a donation to the Stewart Foundation in support of him and his appreciation for his fans. And we're looking for "Here Kitty, Kitty" t shirts if there are any for sale anywhere.

Looks like this is a hot topic! Remember a simple word or words is nothing compared to what the other Athletes are doing which is always all over the news, which by chance is probably on in most households around supper time when the whole family is there to hear about the drugs, abuse and violence. I have been a race fan since I was old enough to walk and have had to defend my sport to all these ball and stick lovers forever and I am proud to know that racing is the cleanest sport out there. I think peoples concern is that if their kids hear someone swear it may disrupt their process of raising ANOTHER GENERATION OF VICTIMS instead of humans smart enough to be able to disseminate right from wrong and appropriate from inappropriate. Srry for the rant...

I am doing another entry right now along these lines because it does seem to be a great topic. Thank you for sharing your comments. I love to hear them.

I have seen a lot worse on tv during earlier hours of the day. And god as my witness, I will not let Tony Stewart ruin the minds of thousands of America's youth!.... Now where did I put my mask and cape.

About this blog:
I am hopeful that this will be a place where people can air their two cents' worth about a race, catch up on the gossip and share their opinions on the rules and regulations of NASCAR. I have always felt that there has been a need for such a place in Maine and that this blog helps to fill the void.
