Busch Race or Final, Final Practice for Cup drivers?

I don’t typically sit down and watch a Busch race. For some reason I did Saturday. I quickly realized why I don’t … it was like watching a Nextel Cup race. There were more Cup drivers in that Busch race than Busch drivers. (More than half the field, if I counted correctly.)

What’s up with that? I didn’t watch the Busch race to watch Ryan Newman, Kevin Harvick, Tony Stewart, Denny Hamlin or Carl Edwards. I save that for the Cup race. I wanted to see the up-and-coming drivers.

With all the rules and regulations that NASCAR makes, you would think they could limit the number of Cup drivers that are allowed to qualify for a Busch race so that others can try to make the field.

There was only one Busch driver that finished in the top ten: Stephen Leicht, who finished 10th. Here are the unofficial results of that race.

Am I the only one that feels this way????

Congrats to Tony Stewart for his first win this year.

I feel the same way that's why I don't watch the Busch Race. I love racing but I'm not spending my whole weekend watching the same drivers in both races. I feel that Busch Racing should be for up and coming drivers that haven't been able to get a ride with Nextel Cup. It was great seeing Stewart climbing the fence again.

If you made the show for Sunday, you should stay out of the Saturday race...

I think the Busch races should be limited to the up and comeing to show their talents. the other guys have made it and do not need to limit the feild where the new guys get to show their talents.

I agree! I think there should be a rule of some sort also, maybe if you your in the top 25 in Cup points you should NOT be able to race in the Busch series.

I agree!! Then Busch Race should only be Busch drivers.. IF and only IF they need to fill the field let the cup drivers in BUT put them at the back of the pack.
OR let the top 35 Busch drivers be in the race and leave what 7 places for the cup drivers.. It is not fair to the Busch guys. At Beech ridge you are not aloud to go down a division. If you are running Pro Stock you can not run Sport Series. If you are sport series you can't run wildcat. it is only fair.
Plus this Qualifying rule that NASCAR has. top 35 are in no matter what in the cup race. nope not right. because there are up and coming cup ddrivers that don't have a snowballs chance to get into a race.
Am I the only one that thinks the suits are running the show and not the people that love racing?!?!? I do know that the people running the show have no clue what real racing is...

The reason Nascar lets Cup drivers in is because there are not enough Busch cars for a full field.

I don't mind if they're in. I think it's good practice for the Busch drivers to race with more experienced drivers.I would expect they learn alot.

What does everyone who watched the Busch race think of Brad Keselowski? I was very impressed with how he handled himself both with the media and in the race. I hope Jr keeps him.

And, Yay Tony! It's about time!

I probably agree more with Laura. But I think once they establish an entry list, if the field isn't full, then call upon Cup drivers to fill the field. I don't think they should necessarily be put in the back though.

I think over time, you would find that more drivers would try to qualify into the Busch race and the Cup drivers wouldn't be needed as much anyway.

So would Lorne Wallace race Busch or go right up to cup?

How would you decide which Cup drivers should be called upon? Say if you should only have 5 places which drivers should you as to either fill the field or qualify?

Right now the Busch series needs those Cup drivers. Some teams are cutting back due to budget constraints.
Busch races are a pretty good deal,I think.Inexpensive to go to, and you get to see alot of the Cup drivers. I would really hate watching a Busch race that looks like an Indy race with only about 15 cars starting and less than half the field still on the lead lap at the end.

Lorne needs to go right to the top.He has a huge fan base already according to the Nascar chat rooms.

First, please post your name. I don't care if it's ficticious, such as DW, but post something so that I can refer to you by name. Maybe it was a mistake...

If they can get away with a top-35 rule, they can do something about the number of cup drivers allowed into a Busch race. Maybe "call upon" is a poor choice of words but seems how there were 25 Cup drivers in the Busch race, I really don't think filling the field would be an issue and it would still allow all the Busch drivers a chance to qualify and race.

Finally Tony comes through. The season turns around . He is a second half guy. Lorne Wallace should go right to the big show. He is the greatest thing to every styep into a race car.

There are two ways at looking at this..First of all, be honest with yourselves.. How many of you would actually watch as many Busch races as u could, to see if it was only Busch drivers...I actually like once in a while seeing a NEXTEL cup driver come in to race and I love it when a Busch driver wins over a Nextel cup driver...and that is why the suits up above like having some NEXTEL drivers becuase of the old mighty dollar...

I believe if your a Nextel driver and you come in the top five this week in the Busch race, they shouldnt race the next week...but also using the teams that are 35th and beyond in the points for Nextel maybe would help them for practice and a little more money (like they need it LOL) so give them the first choice to race, if now take the names that want to and only take as many as Busch needs. thx for your time...hope it made sense LOL

But I am the real DW!
I say if your in the top 25 in Cup points you can not race the Busch series. If you need 5 cup drivers as field fillers then ask Cups drivers who are sitting in 26-30 in the Cup points.
THE REAL DW!

I Jen, I have to put my 2 cents worth in on this subject. I feel Busch drivers should participate in Busch races. Nextel cup drivers should participate in Nextel cup races. If the field is down by seven cars, so be it - you don't necessarily NEED 42 cars on the track in order to have a race. I'm telling you the rules of NASCAR are getting down right stupid. Before Nascar racing was an exciting event, now it looks rigged. I say bring back the old sport.

Alice-
Good point. I think over time, it would be a full field anyway. I am not sure I can completely agree with no Cup drivers in the Busch race but feel it should be limited. To how many? I have no idea...but certainly not half the field.

Busch series is where the COT should be. If the equipment is equal, you can focus on driver development.

I think there would be more Busch teams showing up to qualify if they knew they had to better other Bush teams not other Cup teams to get in. Why waste all your money and time hauling your equipment to a show where you would have to beat 20 cup teams to get in, I think these teams are just staying home now. I think they would start to show up if there was a rule change. Remember its all about the Washingtons, Dollars=Speed

The epuipment will never be equal.
your forgetting the Dollars=Speed formula.

If people feel that cup drivers should be limited to Cup races do you also feel trhat thaey shoul not be able to race in say... the Oxford 250? After all they are potentially taking positions and money from the local guy that has worked his tail off to get into this race. I know having big names helps attendance but it also helps attendance at the Busch level. Personally like someone else said wouldn't it be cool to see someone like Keselowski edge out Tony and Kevin for a win? I bet if you were in the stands for it you would enjoy it! And for the Beech Ridge example I think we're talking a little different situation, whether its Busch or Cup it is the top of the sport and we're talking multi million dollar sponsors that wouldn't be there if they did'nt get the advertising and air time.

Although I know it would never happen, I would like to see the Cup guys qualify to race in the 250. Then nobody could complain they are there. I like the fact that the Cup names sit in locally owned rides when they are here(with the exception of the goodys bag of parts they bring.) But lets face it, if Bill Ryan didnt guarantee these guys a spot he couldnt afford to host the 250(do you sense the sarcasm).

Order in the court people LOL, I wrote last nite at midnite approx..and only a couple said that the Cup drivers should fill a few spots in the Busch series..Im tellin ya..(can you tell what state im from LOL)..there would only be a few of you that would watch every week if it was just Busch Drivers...granted they shouldnt go for the championship...that should belong to the full time Busch Driver...But I would get bored very quickly if i kept seeing steven wallace (who is a good driver) beat out Stanton Barret every week...I want to see them stand up against the Cup drivers and blow their doors off..But that will never happen....The money for them is going to their Cup team...SO to tell u the truth in some way its never gonna stop unless u also limit the amount of teams the owners have total...Busch and Cup together...thats my story and im stickin to it

I agree with Steve, also think of how many "newer" race fans wouldn't even know the Busch series existed if not for the Cup guys. "If you don't want to race the big dogs stay on the porch".

I think the Busch series should have bigger purses, way different cars and race the same day as the Cup cars, only in the AM AT THE SAME TRACK. That way there will be more overlap of fan's for both series. Also you can qualify for both, but only race one. That way even Busch series drivers have the option to drive Cup.

About this blog:
I am hopeful that this will be a place where people can air their two cents' worth about a race, catch up on the gossip and share their opinions on the rules and regulations of NASCAR. I have always felt that there has been a need for such a place in Maine and that this blog helps to fill the void.
