I am heading to Loudon…

I couldn’t pass up an invitation to go down to New Hampshire International Speedway. Fred Neergaard asked if I was going to be credentialed for the race Sunday. Apparently, he has read my blog. The question made its way through many people here at work, and in the end, I was given everyone’s blessing to attend this event.

I have never been to a live NASCAR race. I have never really wanted to go, to be perfectly honest. I enjoy the comforts of my own home…or my Dad’s, which is where we usually watch the race on TV.

I've been credentialed to go in the pits, garage, media center, press box and racetrack. This is all quite foreign to me. I will be leaving Thursday and will be there for all the events taking place throughout the weekend.

I will probably spend most of my time in the garage area, as I might have a pretty good chance of seeing many of the drivers there. If all goes well, I will be doing updates to the blog and uploading photos a few times throughout the day.

Have you ever been to NHIS? Any tidbits you would like to share with me? Are you going to the race? I would love to hear from you.

You will have a great time. Be sure to stand as close to the straightaway to get the full effect of 43 cars travelling 140 MPH. Bring some beer too!!

Best advice if you've never been is don't go. You will be hooked. Thousands of fellow race fans, the noise, the smell, the speed! You will see action that they don't show on tv unless someone wrecks. Nothing like .live.

And get close to the finish line and get a good picture of Smoke climbing the fence!

That is exactly what I'm afraid of...getting hooked.

Great that you get to go to Loudon. My guess is that once will be enough for you. The whole experience when I went was wonderful, until it was time to try to get out of there afterward. It took longer than the whole race I swear to get to the main road..I,like you, like the comforts of home to watch the race.
In my opinion the tv doesn't do justice to what it's really like to see how huge a complex these places are..Have a great time...and if you get near Jeff Burton..tell him Happy Birthday for me..and be sure and check Gordons fenders...Janice

I'll be one of the thousands in the campers. Come visit the night life while you're up there. The race is only part of the fun Nascar weekend. And the best way to avoid the traffic is to camp there and leave on Monday.

I have a DVD of the Louden race a couple of years ago. It featured some radio chatter during a caution. Carl Edwards was admiring the mounted police horses and smelling the barbecued chicken on the backstretch. So hang up your favorite drivers flags and signs, racefan campers. The drivers notice more than you think.

If you plan on spending any time in the garage area, make sure you are wearing long pants and closed shoes. They won't let you anywhere near there if you are wearing shorts and/or sandals. I learned that the hard way when I had my one and only chance to get back there and mingle with the teams and NASCAR fire rules squashed my dreams. Enjoy it for sure!

You are gonna roast. September is the day to go. Make sure you visit the cooling tent often, drink plenty of fluids- get some sleep the night before. Go Tony, Go.

Thanks for that info, little E. Will invest in a garage pass somewhere one of these days. Did the pit thing. Not worth the money.

About this blog:
I am hopeful that this will be a place where people can air their two cents' worth about a race, catch up on the gossip and share their opinions on the rules and regulations of NASCAR. I have always felt that there has been a need for such a place in Maine and that this blog helps to fill the void.
