IN THE WEATHER:
At 9 a.m., it was 27 degrees in downtown Portland.
Some cloud cover and spits of snow or freezing rain, linger until the late morning or early afternoon when the sun comes out.
And then, once that sun gets high in the sky, temperatures could arc into the low 40s, with light winds.
THE SUNRISE HERALD WEATHER WATCHERS REPORT:
Bill in Rockland says:Twenty-two degrees here at 5:30 this morning. A very slight west southwesterly breeze barely disturbs the light falling snow. Were the sun up, it might make a pretty picture.
James in Cape Elizabeth says: Welcome to the first full work and school week of 2009. Well....the snow came back overnight. Almost counts as a dusting as there is enough on the ground to show footprints, but NOT enough for the shovel to have any effect on. Currently at 6:15 it is 24 and cloudy. Have a great day!!
Shawn in Yarmouth says:It is 25 degrees here in Yarmouth this morning. I was surprised when I checked outside and saw a light dusting of snow. There is no wind and the sky is dark and cloud covered. Enjoy your day, back to school, back to work, and here's to a great start to 2009!
Mark in Brunswick says: 23 degrees and a light dusting of snow here this morning in Brunswick.

ON THE ROAD:
• The turnpike early this morning was quite slick with a thin coating of ice, but now that the day is underway, the roads seem safer.
Just how slick were they? A Maine State Police dispatcher said there was a full rollover around the Sabattus exit (mile 86) shortly after 4:30 a.m. today. The car rolled over and skidded into a ditch. It was a single car crash, and the driver was transported to the hospital for injuries.

ON THE OCEAN:
• The morning starts calm, but as the day builds, so do the winds, making for a small craft advisory by afternoon and lingering until tomorrow morning. For the most part, however, a southern wind blows 10 to 15 knots with seas 2 to 3 feet.
• High tide in Portland: 5:16 p.m. Low tide: 11:06 a.m. and 11:20 p.m.

OF NOTE TODAY:
Events coming up you might want to know about:
IN LEWISTON -- The city and its neighboring Auburn host a press conference at 10:30 a.m. announcing this year's "Take the Money; You've Earned It" campaign.
The campaign is to draw attention to Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), a federal tax credit for low-to-moderate income workers.
Lewiston and Auburn officials say many of the people eligible for the credit don't even know it, and there within lies the reason for the press conference.
Essentially, the twin cities will announce publicly that during the upcoming tax season (January-March), volunteer tax preparers will be available at established sites within the L-A community to assist with free tax preparation. And if you might be eligible for a EITC without knowing it, these workshops can help.
This link will take you to a website that has all the dates, places and times of the free tax seminars.
