BANGOR -- The president of a New Hampshire company that installed a heating system linked to carbon monoxide poisonings in a Maine apartment building has pleaded not guilty to a misdemeanor charge. But prosecutors don't expect the case to go to trial. Instead, a plea agreement is anticipated.
The charge against James Kane of Concord, N.H., stems from an incident in August in which eight people were hospitalized for carbon monoxide poisoning in a 31-unit building in Brewer. Three victims were treated in a hyperbaric chamber and one woman spent about a week in the hospital.
The company was charged because Concord Gas was not licensed in Maine. It also didn't have a city permit. A lawsuit seeking financial damages is expected.(AP)
