Want to watch the Black Bears season opener? WPME in Portland (Channel 17 on Time Warner) will carry the Maine hockey games at 8:30 Friday night against Alaska-Anchorage and 11:30 Saturday night against Alaska-Fairbanks.

Maine and Alaska-Fairbanks will meet for the first time since October of 1994, when the Black Bears defeated the Nanooks 5-2 at the Carlson Center. Maine leads the all-time series 6-2-0.
Maine and Alaska-Anchorage will meet for the first time since 2002, when the Black Bears defeated the Seawolves 4-2. Maine is 2-2-1 against UAA.
Alaska-Anchorage associate head coach Campbell Blair is a 1991 Maine graduate and was a letterwinner for the Black Bears from 1988-1991. He served as an assistant coach at Maine during the 1991-92 season and returned to the Black Bears staff for five seasons from 2001-06.
