Shady ladies

Oh, Jackie O. I’ll always remember that famous Ron Galella photo of you – looking so carefree and classy in your rib-knit sweater and slim jeans; was it Central Park? And, of course, your trademark sunglasses - big, dark and so chic. It was 1971, but you’d still be in style today. Jackie pic

Don’t we all feel a little like Jackie when we try on those oversized shades? I succumbed last summer and splurged on huge purple Cynthia Rowley frames with orange and pearl dots on the bows. Would they still work this summer, or would I look like a Paris Hilton wannabe a year too late?

The silent and live auctions will feature purses and accessories donated by local and national designers, craftspeople and celebrities - including a Giorgio Armani handbag donated by actress Glenn Close. Andrea Nemitz is online day editor at pressherald.com.

She graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a degree in journalism and has been at the papers since 1986 as a photo editor, features editor and business editor. She and her husband, columnist Bill Nemitz, live in Bar Mills and can say with relief that all five kids have made it through college.

Her passion for fashion first emerged in fourth grade, when she begged her parents (successfully) for white go-go boots. (Think Nancy Sinatra.) She knew at an early age that those brown Girl Scout oxfords did not work with a blue tulle Easter dress, and has the scowling photo to prove it.
