Shady ladies
Oh, Jackie O. I’ll always remember that famous Ron Galella photo of you – looking so carefree and classy in your rib-knit sweater and slim jeans; was it Central Park? And, of course, your trademark sunglasses - big, dark and so chic. It was 1971, but you’d still be in style today. Jackie pic
Don’t we all feel a little like Jackie when we try on those oversized shades? I succumbed last summer and splurged on huge purple Cynthia Rowley frames with orange and pearl dots on the bows. Would they still work this summer, or would I look like a Paris Hilton wannabe a year too late?

Here's a guilt-free and good-hearted way to buy that new purse: The Ronald McDonald House of Portland will hold its second annual Purses with Purpose, etc., fund-raising luncheon this Thursday, May 31, at Sable Oaks Marriott Hotel in South Portland.

The silent and live auctions will feature purses and accessories donated by local and national designers, craftspeople and celebrities - including a Giorgio Armani handbag donated by actress Glenn Close. Welcome to Fine Lines!
I knew from an early age there was no excuse for bad fashion.
Go-go boots? Had to have them. (Bless my parents, penny-pinching grad students that they were, who realized there are some things a girl's just gotta have.)
Clogs? I proudly stomped down the high school halls before anyone knew what they were. And let's not forget the Betsey Johnson elephant-bell coral cords or the neon tights that brought a stern warning from the principal. (They were too distracting.)
Thirty-five years later I'm still devouring fashion magazines, searching for a style that screams "me."
