Mainers go free!

Don't say the state doesn't give you anything for your tax dollars.

This Sunday, you get all the state parks and state historic sites for free.

It's the state's annual Maine Day, when Maine residents get into more than 50 state parks and historic sites without paying anything.

So if you stay away from spots like Two Lights State Park on the dramatic rocky shore of Cape Elizabeth because you don't want to pay admission for a family of four or five, Sunday is your day.

To find out about interesting parks, trails, beaches, or forts around the state, check out the searchable list of state parks and state historic sites maintained by the
Department of Conservation

Ray Routhier is a dad who is morally opposed to paying for fun. He's 44, and a New Hampshire native (meaning he's morally opposed to a lot of things) and has been writing for daily newspapers for 20 years. He lives in South Portland with his wife Jessica and two daughters, Sophie, 4, and Dinah, 1. The family also includes two cats, twelve Barbies and 47 Polly Pockets. As a family, they love going to Portland Sea Dogs games, walking down to Willard Beach, dancing to the "Powdermilk Biscuit" song on public radio's "A Prairie Home Companion," and finding new stuff to do.
