Celebrating the cheap dad

The term “cheap dad” is sometimes used in derision. Wrongly. Unjustly.

So it’s nice to see the folks at the Boothbay Railway Village paying homage to dads who don’t like to shell out a lot of cash. On Sunday, Father’s Day, admission for all fathers is free. Usually, adults pay $9.

Admission for children ages 3 to 16 is $5. Children under 3 are admitted for free. This means dad and a couple of the kids can have a pretty inexpensive outing riding the rails and walking around the village.

The village’s steam train runs frequently through the day and meanders around a quaint village of 28 historic structures, including a town hall, a chapel, a school and various shops. There’s also an auto museum with more than 60 antique vehicles.

And on Sunday, there will be free Model T rides throughout the day.

So you would encourage people to drive all the way from the Portland area to Boothbay to "save" $9? Where does the cheap part come in? You can do better than that.

Duh. Not everyone lives in Portland. Oddly enough, some people actually live around boothbay.

Duh, think how much you'd save if you didn't drive anywhere and just stayed home.

Ray,

As another "high value" dad out here, thanks for the good work. Keep it up!
