While we're still working through "Olive", it's time to choose the February offering.
For the next month, we'll go with a nonfiction pick. When readers voted for the January selection, two nonfiction works -- "One Man's Meat" and "A Place Called Maine" -- finished in a near deadlock for second place. So this time, we'll choose between them.
"One Man's Meat" is a group of essays that concern E.B. White's experiences living on a saltwater farm in Brooklin during the late 1930s and early 1940s. The wonderful "Once More to the Lake", however, takes the reader to the Belgrade Lakes region where White spent boyhood vacations and to which he returns with his son.
"A Place Called Maine" is edited by poet Wesley McNair, who also contributes. Among the authors included are Carolyn Chute, Richard Ford, Bill Roorbach, Richard Russo, and Monica Wood.
Please vote by Jan. 26; we'll announce the winner on the blog.
That is a tough choice. They both seem to be very interesting. Because the group is made up of many different people and different maine experiences I go with A Place called Maine.
