Back to it
Once again I find myself looking at the calendar and realizing I haven’t posted for awhile.
The weeks around Election Day are hectic here. Many of our reporters are busy writing election-related stories. Most of this year’s coverage was meat-and-potatoes stuff: Local races for selectmen, school committee, city council, etc. But it takes a tremendous effort by the reporting staff to pull it all together AND produce bigger stories for the front page and the section fronts. So there’s a lot of juggling, planning and panicking (by editors like myself) on some days.
Throw a long holiday weekend into the mix and, well, you get the picture.
I spent some time “offline” over the past three weeks, which meant I was away from my normal duties worrying about tomorrow’s newspaper. I spent five days editing an upcoming series of stories by our investigative reporter. And I spent about three days working on plans, ironically enough, for our coverage of the 2008 election, which promises to be even busier from the newspaper’s standpoint than 2007.
